Trinidad

Trinidad is a large and populous island. It is one of the two main islands and landforms which compose the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. The southernmost island in the Caribbean is Trinidad. It lies about 11 kilometers off the northeastern shore of Venezuela. The island has an area around 4,768 square kilometers. Trinidad is on the sixth place magnitude in the West Indies.

The culture of Trinidad today is the result of a combination of many various cultures. The island supports an annual pre-Lenten Carnival almost all week before Ash Wednesday. Trinidad is the birthplace of the Tassa drums, Steelpan musical instrument and also Limbo dance. Varied styles of popular music include Chutney, Calypso, Soca, Soca-Parang and Parang.

Main islets include the hills of the Centralр Northern and Southern Ranges, Nariva, the Caroni, Naparima Plains and Oropouche Swamps. Main river systems include Ortoire Rivers, South and North Oropouche and the Caroni.

Native animal species include the Collared Peccary, Red Brocket Deer, the Ocelot and Red Howler Monkey. The island is a rich of bird species, the Trinidad Piping Guan.

Trinidad is an industrial island. It has a diversified economy, founded to a termless extent on natural gas and oil, agriculture and industry. The island is one of the several major gas exported centres in the world, being the exporter of methanol and ammonia. Trinidad is among the top five exporters of natural gas.
